Bosques Cautín has been certified under the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) standard since 2003, meaning it is a forestry company that reviews and audits its processes to ensure the sustainability of its actions.
To celebrate its 20th anniversary in Chile and 30 years globally, the FSC organization held a special anniversary meeting, attended by Luis Alfaro, Sustainability Manager of Bosques Cautín.
During this meeting, led by FSC International’s Director General, Kim Carstensen, participants had the opportunity to share their perspectives within the FPIC (Free, Prior, and Informed Consent) Working Committee, a new methodology in which Bosques Cautín is actively involved. In this context, Luis Alfaro presented the company’s achievements and the extensive journey of the Mapuche Afforestation Program (PFM), ‘Our presentation was very well received because the PFM program aligns with the procedure outlined in this new indicator,’ he explained.
During the meeting, which was attended by companies such as CMPC, Arauco, Comaco, Hancock, FSC Chile, and others, FSC International’s Director General, Kim Carstensen, highlighted the ongoing evolution of the Chilean forestry sector driven by the implementation of pilot projects to assess compliance with this indicator.
This is a step that enables the review of processes and guides us in adapting to the new requirements of sustainable forestry. According to Luis Alfaro, Bosques Cautín looks forward to continuing to participate in future events. ‘We hope to take part in the FSC International Assembly, which will be held in 2025 in Panama, to present the positive results of the PFM program, results that have helped shape an approach that is now an integral part of our company’s identity.’
